  • ‘Hanx’ aka Tom Hanks gets hang of Twitter

    Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is kind of getting the hang of Twitter. Kind of.

The actor, who was a Twitter virgin until recently, posted a picture of the casting board for his upcoming film Larry Crowne. The second-act tale will feature Hanks as both director and actor.

Hanks did not make clear who was in the photos, with difficult-to-read captions, leading a number of websites to get together and try to work out who was what.

The Saving Private Ryan star’s accompanying tweet said: “The Larry Crowne Casting Wall (incomplete). Hanx.”

A film website tried to set the record straight with a list of those assembled in the Twitpic.

Top Row: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cedric the Entertainer, Rami Malek, George Takei, Dale Dye. Middle Row: Peter Scolari, Bryan Cranston, Wilmer Valderrama, Taraji P. Henson, Malcolm Barrett, Unknown?, Bob Stephenson. Bottom Row: Jon Seda, Maria Canals-Barrera (not Nia Vardalos), Holmes Osborne.

  • Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson super-size to beach mansion

    SPL137992_014

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have sold their home in Los Angeles – and set an early record for 2010.

RadarOnline reports Hanks sold his 7000 square foot, four-bedroom, five-bathroom property for $26 million, making the sale the highest recorded in Los Angeles County so far in 2010. The veteran acting couple will move into a much bigger 14,500 square feet manse in Pacific Palisades, the super-luxe beach enclave for celebs and the wealthy.

Hanks, 53, and Wilson bought the estate from producing couple Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The Da Vinci Code star and director Steven Spielberg are executive producers of the upcoming 10-part miniseries The Pacific, which premieres on March 14 on HBO.

  • Tom Hanks: I’m no longer insecure about my acting

Hanks, 52, who is starring in the Angels & Demons and has previously won two Best Actor Oscars, said: “I no longer feel insecure about my acting. Early on I took any job that was offered, milking it for the money. I had no idea what I was doing – that’s when insecurity and self-loathing start.”

He added to the UK’s Radio Times magazine: “At least I don’t have problems with my physical appearance any more. After a while you have to give up being vain.

“For a long time I wouldn’t wear a hat because I thought it looked stupid. But guess what? This is what I look like in a hat, so who cares? In Angels & Demons I have to wear a Speedo to go swimming. It takes a real man to slap on a Speedo and say: ‘I’m ready for work.’”

“And my face – from one side it’s decent, from the other it’s as if someone carved a pumpkin. But this is the way I look, and I’m in the finest, most rewarding, artistic job.”

  • Julia Roberts drops the F-word twice as she honours pal Tom Hanks

Oscar winning star Julia Roberts stunned an audience of fellow celebrities by dropping the F word twice while honouring pal Tom Hanks.

Hanks was being presented with the Chaplin Award at the 36th annual Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala by Roberts when she stole the show.

As Roberts took to the stage to introduce Hanks she said: “It’s late, and I’m paying my babysitter overtime and I have to pee.

    “So, everybody f****** likes you.”

Then assessing his 2004 movie The Terminal, in which Hanks played an Eastern European trapped in Immigration at J.F.K., Roberts said: “That movie about you and the airport and the accent was a pass for me.

“Airport? Were you just an immigrant lost? I didn’t know. I love you, but I didn’t know and I’m wearing the same f****** dress tonight as your publicist.”

As Hanks took to the podium, he told the black-tie crowd that Roberts has so much clout that the big story of the evening would be: “Julia Roberts wears same dress as publicist.”

He then added: “Julia Roberts has the biggest potty mouth you have ever heard.”

Hanks, who has appeared in such movies as The Da Vinci Code, Castaway, Saving Private Ryan and Forrest Gump, accepted his award with many of his famous friends and co-stars in the audience.

They included directors Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Mike Nicols and actresses Sally Field and Charlize Theron.
