  • Oprah Winfrey’s mum settles clothing store lawsuit

    SPL136207_005

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey’s mum has settled a lawsuit with a high-end clothing store.

Vernita Lee allegedly owed Milwaukee’s Valentina Inc $155,000, seven years after a $174,000 shopping spree at the same shop got her into trouble.

Lee was sued in July 2008 by the store and was ordered to pay them $2,000 a month to settle her debt.

But that was challenged by her lawyers, who claimed that Lee had been extended another line of credit despite the 2002 bill of $174,000, which she was sued for and eventually paid.

Details of the latest settlement have not been made public, but Lee will reportedly make a “partial payment” to the store.

“We’re happy with what transpired. It’s over,” said Valentina co-owner Tony Chirchirillo.

  • Courtney Love has legal problems

The singer is apparently in yet another legal pickle. It seems that fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir is suing Courtney Love because of the malicious posts the singer made on twitter about the fashion designer a while back. Apparently, it all started when Courtney Love stopped paying Dawn Simorangkir for her services so, obviously, she stopped providing them. Still, what is the point of this lawsuit anyway… it’s not like there’s anything left to squeeze out of Ms. Cobain… after all, the Government was there first! It looks like Courtney Love really is in a pickle this time. Look at where her “free speech” got her now… go hippie, go!

  • Oprah Winfrey being sued over alleged jet sex claims

    Oprah Winfrey-photo

Oprah Winfrey is being sued for more than £200,000 for allegedly accusing one of the flight attendants on her private jet of a sex romp.

Corinne Gehrls, 39, alleges Winfrey accused her of having sex on board the chat show queen’s $42 million Global Express XRS jet.

She alleges in a lawsuit filed in Chicago that Winfrey’s god-daughter Kirby Bumpus, also a flight attendant, made up the story.

Gehrls and chief pilot Terry Pansing, 57, were fired in July after the allegations. Both passed a lie detector test, according to the lawsuit.

Gehrls claims the allegations were “obviously false” since the incident was said to have taken place while the plane was on the ground refuelling. The flight attendant said Winfrey and other passengers had taken sleeping aids and were “dozing” in their seats.

Also named in the lawsuit are Bumpus and Myron Gooch, a flight attendant who the suit claims made the same allegations against Gehrls.

  • Beyoncé sued by Abercrombie & Fitch

    SPL118914_001

Beyoncé Knowles has become embroiled in a Fierce legal battle with clothing giant Abercrombie & Fitch.

The pop star has been sued by the company, which claims that it owns the rights to the name of her new perfume.

The singer’s fragrance – which is named after her onstage alter-ego Sasha Fierce – was due to be launched next year.

However, the Ohio-based firm filed a lawsuit, just hours after Knowles announced its release.

The company has asked a judge in Columbus, Ohio, to block Knowles, accusing her of trademark infringement and deceptive trade practices.

Abercrombie & Fitch claims that it has racked up $190m in sales of its Fierce cologne since 2002.

Lawyers for the company said that the singer’s fragrance “poses a likelihood of confusion” for customers and could cost them future sales.

They also revealed that they had already sent Knowles a cease-and-desist letter to no effect.

  • Britney Spears sued by photographer

Ricardo Mendoza, a former photographer for the gossip site TMZ, has filled a lawsuit against Britney Spears last Friday for assault and batter. Apparently the singer ran over the photographer’s foot with her car and now she’s being sued for it. This all sounds good and normal… just that it all happened on October 18th, 2007. That was two freaking years ago! And now Britney Spears gets sued? That’s a bit odd and I have to ask myself: is the fact that Ricardo Mendoza is now a former photographer for TMZ having any influence on him filling this lawsuit? Just a minor detail that needs to be clarified.

  • A writer has piled financial misery for Mel Gibson as he sues him over his fees for Passion of the Christ

A writer is piling on the financial misery for divorce-bound Mel Gibson after telling a judge the star fiddled figures for a film to avoid paying him a fair fee.

Benedict Fitzgerald, who wrote Gibson’s controversial box office smash The Passion of the Christ, is suing him as he tries to get a larger paycheque for his work.

The writer said he accepted a low fee after being told the movie would have a reasonably modest $4-$7m production budget – but believes he has been lied to.

During the case, Gibson’s team produced accounting records putting the expenditure at $30m.

But Fitzgerald is now claiming the amount is even higher and is asking a judge to force a more thorough accounting.

He wants what he considers to be a fair writer’s fee based on the true cost of the movie, reported TMZ.com.

The news came just days after it emerged Gibson’s wife Robyn had filed for divorce – which could lead to a record settlement.

A large slice of Gibson’s estimated $950m fortune has come from The Passion of the Christ, which reportedly made over $600m around the world in cinemas alone.
