    Wolverine star Hugh Jackman is joining forces with Steven Spielberg for a blockbuster described as Rocky with robots.

    The Australian actor has been signed up by the director’s DreamWorks studio for Real Steel, its first big film since new funding brought it back to life after financial problems last year.

    Directed by Shawn Levy, of Night at the Museum, the picture will see Jackman as a former boxer reinventing himself as the promoter for a fighting robot in a future where machines take over from humans in the ring.

    It is a recurring theme for Spielberg, who has explored the subject of technology taking over from humans in the likes of Minority Report and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

    According to Variety, the ‘Rocky-esque’ film has been described by Levy as a “rousing sports movie” with Jackman’s character “a former boxer who can no longer do the only job he’s good at, and one particular robot that may be his return to grace”.

    Jackman will reportedly play a struggling robot boxing promoter who finds a discarded robot that always seems to win.

    He also discovers he has a 11-year-old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.

    Production on the film, which is based on a short story, is set to start in June.

    Little Britain star Matt Lucas has revealed how he also had a theatre performance interrupted like Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig.

    Matt, 35, is appearing as Joe Orton’s gay lover Kenneth Halliwell in Prick Up Your Ears, which is currently previewing in London’s West End.

    Hollywood actors Hugh Jackman, 40, and Daniel Craig, 41, recently had a performance of their show A Steady Rain interrupted by a mobile phone going off.

    Matt said: “On an early matinee performance, one old man was shouting: ‘I can’t find my seat!’ The problem was that he was at the wrong end of the row.

    “I was doing a scene sitting on a bed at the time and I sat on it for an extra five minutes watching this other performance in the stalls.

    “When he finally sat down, he got a round of applause from the whole audience, including me. I even wondered if it was David Walliams in disguise pretending to upstage me.”

  • Swine flu messes with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Premiere

    Hugh Jackman’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” has been faced with several challenges lately. First was the unauthorized release of the uncompleted movie version in the Internet and now, the swine flu scare is wreaking havoc with the Adamantium-laced Wolverine. The movie was scheduled to have a premiere in Mexico City but this has been postponed no thanks to the swine flu outbreak which has already resulted to the death of more than 100 people in the area.

    No new premiere dates have been released by Twentieth Century Fox so far but the studio said they are putting on hold all plans in the area due to the seriousness of the virus. The producers said they are considering not only Hugh Jackman’s health–who is the only “Wolverine’ star scheduled to appear in Mexico for the premiere—but also the well-being of several other people under their employ. There is a however a possibility that the event will be rescheduled.

  • Leak of Wolverine online breaks Hugh Jackman’s heart


    The latest installment in the X-men Series. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” is yet to be shown in theaters this May but Internet users have seen the film’s teaser after it was leaked online this month. Barely a month before the film is scheduled to be shown in US theaters, a work print has already appeared online to the dismay of the film’s producers and its star Hugh Jackman. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” narrates the beginnings of Wolverine, a story essential to all the other X-Men movies.

    The Motion Picture Association of America and the FBI are already investigating the online leak of the film. Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman was in Sydney, Australia recently to unveil a portion of the completed footage of the film. Hugh Jackman is however confident that fans will still flock to the theaters to watch the movie despite the online leak. Hugh Jackman said it is very disappointing because people are seeing an unfinished film.
