Gordon Ramsay is taking another top British show to the US – the BBC’s long-running series, MasterChef.

The celebrity chef will star in and co-produce the American version of the show – which first aired in the UK in 1990 – on Fox TV.

“[It's] a huge reality format that works great in other countries, plus Gordon Ramsay guarantees success,” said Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment at Fox.

    “Gordon is like our CSI.”

The executive producer of the show, Howard T Owens, added: “This is a huge, nationwide search for the best amateur chef in America.

“It’s about people who are lawyers, construction workers and stay-at-home mums, but whose real passion is to make great food.

“This is their shot to prove they have what it takes.”

An Australian edition of the show has already been very successful – the series finale was one of the country’s most-watched programmes in a decade, when it aired earlier this year.

MasterChef is the third series that Ramsay will front in the US for Fox TV.

He also appears in Hell’s Kitchens and Kitchen Nightmares.

  • Gordon Ramsays Iron Man challenge

Gordon Ramsay is working out and eating healthily as he prepares to compete in the American Iron Man event next year.

He said: “I’ve totally cut out dairy and butter, and I’m using much cleaner cooking techniques like steaming, nothing is fried now.”

He told RadarOnline.com: “In the morning, I have a fresh fruit smoothie and I’m eating plenty of salads and fresh fruit [and] I’m only eating white meat now.”

The Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA star is reportedly also going on runs each day with weights to prepare his body for the event, which takes place in Florida next year.

Ramsay is currently preparing for the final of this year’s Hell’s Kitchen competition and admitted it was “scary” when 400lb chef Robert Hesse was forced to drop out of the competition because of chest pains.

He said: “I was really concerned for Robert as he was a very talented chef.”

“But cooking these days is very ‘high pressure’ and chefs have to look after themselves and try and stay fit. Robert struggled with that mind-set, but he is an amazing guy and I’m sure he will get himself in shape again.”

Gordon, 42, also added that this year’s finalists, Paula DaSilva and Danny Veltri, are the best the competition has seen.

He said: “They are both great chefs who would have won any of our previous seasons of Hell’s Kitchen, for sure.”
