• Up In The Air author tweets for seat at Oscars

    SPL132179_029

The author of Up In The Air was left off the guest list for the upcoming Academy Awards, UPI reports.

Walter Kirn, who was eventually invited to the March 7 ceremony where his movie is one of those in the running for Best Picture, said he only received an invite after he complained online.

Kirn took to Twitter last week to complain that Paramount Pictures had not invited him to the Oscars. He tweeted: “Novelists are like oil in H’wood: they drill us, pipeline us, pump us and then burn us.”

Kirn’s off-beat, comic film starring George Clooney has played to much acclaim and has picked up other Oscar nods for its cast and director, Jason Reitman.

Of his belated Oscars ticket, Kirn tweeted: “Thanks to Paramount Pictures for coming through with Oscar tickets and proving true to its word, which I shouldn’t have doubted.”

  • Hope for Haiti reaches beyond record to raise $57m+

    SPL149540_005

The Hope for Haiti telethon reached over and above disaster relief records to raise a staggering $57 million – and counting.

The blockbuster tally emerged over the weekend following the star-studded call-a-thon put together at the 11th hour by George Clooney and Wyclef Jean and held on Friday.

Stars such as Rihanna, Bono, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and Madonna gave stirring performances, while countless others, including Mel Gibson, Meg Ryan, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Stevie Wonder and Cindy Crawford, manned the phones.

Clooney, who emerged in a goatee and plain sweater, said: “At the core of every religion is the belief that we care for one another, we take care of each other especially in times of need. The Haitian people need our help, they need to know they’re not alone, they need to know we still care.”

Lisa Paulsen, head of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, said the event has set a record for disaster relief telethons.

Broadcast from New York, Los Angeles, London and Haiti, it was beamed around the world by all the big US TV networks and streamed via YouTube and other internet channels with the aim of reaching into 640 million households. Recordings of the event were instantly available on iTunes and other music sites.

  • George Clooney invites round Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to escape media

SPL132533_013Actor George Clooney has said if he wants a break from the media attention he just invites round his pals Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Clooney, 48, is starring in new movie Up in the Air, which has received positive reviews and has been said to be Oscar-worthy.

Talking about his life at his villa in Lake Como, he said: “It takes you out of the spotlight for several months at a time.

“It’s much easier for me to hang out with friends at a restaurant in Laglio or a lot of the other small villages and towns without 50 photographers showing up in half a hour.

“My life over there takes me away from the circus aspects of being a celebrity and that’s a pleasant change for me.

“Whenever I want, I can always stage a diversion and invite Brad, Angie and their 15 children to come and visit.”

  • Clint Eastwood or George Clooney?

A Clint Eastwood flick would make a better film to star in than a George Clooney rom com, say most Americans in an online poll.

A veteran actor and director, Eastwood won out over the wildly popular Clooney for 20 percent of the respondents who were asked what kind of film they would like to star in. The choice, however, may have defeated some women, since both Eastwood and Clooney are heart-throb material.

Clooney came in at 18 percent, while Cameron Diaz also scored 18 percent. She was followed by the choices of: an action movie with Will Smith, a comedy with Will Farrell or a drama with Meryl Streep.

The 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair survey also found almost 70 percent of US adults watched TV when their favourite programs are running in their usual time slots, while 20 percent used a DVR or TiVO. The younger generation was more likely to record their top television shows or use the internet or an iPod to view them, the survey found.

Kevin Tedesco, the executive director of communications at CBS News, said: “It is a way to listen in on the public conversation. We try to be current.”

  • George Clooney’s raw, chafe and up in the air

    SPL132533_013

George Clooney whetted appetites everywhere when he dropped some details of his new flick, Up In The Air.

“Not only is my performance raw in this film, but through most of the film I am naked from the waist down. So not only am I raw, I’m chafed,” he said.

Clooney was at the Mann’s Village Theatre premiere of the movie in Los Angeles earlier, arriving with his mother, Nina, and his girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis. The comment sounds tempting but is likely to be just some more Clooney red carpet banter – of which there has been plenty this summer.

Up In The Air, directed by Jason Reitman and co-starring Anna Kendrick, is drawing rave reviews and tells the very contemporary story of a man who must travel around America laying off workers. Clooney said: “I was the right guy to play the part – I thought that he was a really great character and it was a great part. And it’s Jason Reitman, so you can’t go wrong.”

On a more sober note he said of his comedy’s serious topic: “It’s a tricky thing. It’s very rare that films come out in the middle of when they’re topical. It was just important to do it correctly and deal with the idea that people are getting laid off. And we thought it doesn’t make it a comedy anymore. It can’t just be a flat-out comedy. It had to address what people are going through.”

  • Canalis and Cindy Crawford keep the snappers guessing

    SPL97822_071
Fans who turned out for the Fantastic Mr Fox may have seen double in the line-up.

Photos that surfaced from the glittering Picadilly event, meanwhile, had editors straining at their computer monitors. Was that Cindy Crawford? Or was that Elisabetta Canalis?

The confusion is only made worse by the fact that Crawford has been spotted with Clooney’s new belle, Canalis, and the megastar on double dates both in Italy and at home in the US.

Crawford (all right, that’s her in the picture) and Clooney are great friends who go way back. The two delectable women wore very similar dark dresses that featured this season’s sheer, shoulder-glimpsing look.

Canalis, however, showed off discrete circular tattoos on both arms. Perhaps the ladies were playing a trick on the assembled throng.

  • Brad Pitts Malibu man cave

    SPL128628_001

When family life gets too much, Brad Pitt reportedly makes a beeline for his “man cave”.

Pitt, 45, is known to escape to his Malibu man-only home, filled with masculine gadgets and ambience – in which, his friends say, he keeps a vintage Wurlitzer jukebox, flat-screen TVs, and motorbikes, including a Harley-Davidson Bad Boy and Confederate Hellcat. Rather than hit the nightclub scene, the Inglourious Basterds star is said to like sitting around and drinking beer with his male buddies.

Apparently, Pitt is not alone – his pal bachelor George Clooney has filled his homes with expensive boy toys, while actor Nicolas Cage reportedly has a “man sanctuary” filled with rare Superman comics, and Johnny Depp, a father of two, keeps guitars and cases of wine in a Paris cave.

The late Elvis Presley is said to have built the first “man cave” at Graceland, his home in Memphis, Tennessee, calling it the “jungle room”.

  • Italian mayor to fine groups at George Clooney’s Como villas

The mayor of the Lake Como community that is home to George Clooney has introduced a fine forbidding groups of more than three people from gathering outside the Villa Oleandra.

Giorgio Possi introduced the fine, which is benchmarked at €19, rising for repeat offenders.
Photographers and autograph seekers have turned up in droves at Clooney’s villa, which he bought in 2001.

The actor and dashing bachelor bought the house as a getaway, purchasing the adjacent Villa Margherita later on.

But it was beleaguered neighbours who sought civil action in the end — not the actor, said Possi.

  • PETA wants George Clooney’s sweat!

PETA is stalking George Clooney! Other than that, how did George Clooney’s sweat-soaked gym towel got into PETA’s hands? This was confirmed by PETA when the animal rights crusaders wrote human rights crusader George Clooney asking his permission for the use of his salty secretions as an ingredient of the Clooney-flavored tofu? Lest George Clooney thinks they have turned loonies, PETA assured the Oscar-winning actor that there is a technology that can take perspiration and convert it into CloFu or what you call Clooney-flavored tofu.

PETA said George Clooney’s fans would swoon at the idea of eating the George Clooney tofu. The technology is actually similar to the artificial chicken flavor used in instant gravy, said a researcher. However, tofu would be more difficult to swallow. George Clooney however said he is offended by PETA’s suggestion. The group is however determined and has even prepared serving suggestions for the CloFu saying a cheese-scented one can be used as pizza or lasagna topping. PETA’s intentions are noble anyway since they believe CloFu will not only help people become healthier but more environment and animal-friendly.

  • David Beckham staying in George Clooney’s pad:

The famous soccer player who is currently on load to AC Milan is staying at George Clooney’s villa in Italy since George Clooney is away with work. David Beckham apparently has great admiration for the famous actor and at some point said: “I’ve noticed a bit of gray, but as long as it’s George Clooney gray I don’t mind. George is one of the most handsome men in the world.” Oh, so now grey hair comes in different varieties. And how, pray tell, do you recognize this most elusive George Clooney gray. It’s surprising he didn’t call it silver and not gray. But David Beckham probably doesn’t want to give away such a secret. Oh well, he need not worry, when George Clooney will no longer be on of the most handsome men in this world, he’ll probably be here to take his place.
