  • Charlize Theron’s ’style boob’ Oscars dress is talk of town

    Charlize Theron’s 1940s-style Oscars gown has landed her on a myriad of worst-dressed lists.

    The sultry South African beauty chose satin rosettes that encircled her covered nipples in an unusual move that set her lilac-toned dress far apart from the glittering crowd.

    Just when it seemed women’s breasts were becoming unremarkable, the dress has been tagged a “style boob” and “controversial”. Theron, a past Oscar-winner, in footage from the audience at the ceremony seemed to pick up on the vibe early on. Her expression was uncertain and flat.

    Joan Rivers lambasted the dress, which was designed by John Galliano for Dior, as that featuring Cinnabon cakes, TimesLive reports.

    South African designer Abigail Keats said: “A very controversial dress. What is the point of those roses? Honestly, they look stupid. So many South African designers would [have been] honoured to dress her but instead she attends the Oscars in this? Why?”

    South Africa fashion blogger Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly wrote: “Sadly, Charlize Theron gets my worst-dressed award at this year’s Oscars. Dior’s lilac creation with Chelsea bun breast rosettes and a train is just horrible.”

    Cape Town designer Malcolm Kluk, who has dressed Theron, said: “I’m hoping it’s just a bad picture. She usually has very good taste in clothes. It might be part of her contract with Dior to wear what they tell her.”

    But US stylist and fashion commentator Mary Alice Stephenson said: “Charlize’s dress was really dramatic. Love it or hate it, you want to talk about it.”

  • Nicole Kidman signs on Gwyneth Paltrow

    Oscar-winning actresses Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow will play each other’s spouses in the upcoming movie about a transsexual, The Danish Girl.

    Paltrow, 37, has signed on for the role as Kidman’s California-born wife, Greta Wegener, in the provocative real-life story of an artist, Einar Wegener, to be played by Kidman.

    According to imdb.com, Charlize Theron was the first choice for Greta, but she dropped out.

    Kidman’s company Blossom Films with Per Saari will make the movie, which Kidman will also produce.

    Kidman’s character is a married man, a painter, to begin with. But his wife asks him to don a dress and heels to stand in for an absent female model, which starts a journey of transsexual exploration that includes a sex change. Wegener’s wife stands by him for years.

    Transsexuals are gaining more prominence, with celebrity daughter of Sonny Bono, Chastity, recently becoming Chaz, a man.

    Charlize Theron’s new movie opens with a full frontal nude glimpse of her character.

    Theron, who joined La Toya Jackson and the regular panellists of The View, said the scene was right for the story and made her want to know, who is this woman?

    Theron, 34, said she had known a lot of women like The Burning Plain’s lead character. Elsewhere she said: “We’re both women [laughs]. I relate to the idea of guilt. I think a lot of women do. And having to get out of that place of guilt. It’s in our nature to do that guilty thing, it’s what nurturers do. I think I have complete empathy for her. I don’t relate to her, but I have complete empathy for her desire to not feel and for her desire to escape. So I’m pretty fascinated by people who do that and by what it means to do that.”

    Theron appeared in a clip from the movie with the dishy John Corbett, who played a boyfriend of Carrie Bradshaw on Sex And The City. Theron’s character is a troubled woman with a thorny childhood who tries to form a bond with her mother, played by Kim Basinger. The story is two-tiered so that Theron and Basinger do not share the screen.

    Of Basinger, she said: “She’s amazing. I met her on the set a couple of times. For me she was really the first choice and the only choice to play this role. There really was no other actress for me at that age range who had access to the vulnerability that that character needed than Kim. So I was super, super excited to have her on this film, and when I met her she was absolutely lovely. Really just a pro. I have nothing but amazing things to say about her.”

  • Salma Hayek had a very musical second wedding

    Salma Hayek had a very musical second wedding – with Bono and a host of Hollywood A-listers singing for her.

    The sultry actress tied the knot with French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault at Venice’s famed opera house Teatro La Fenice, just weeks after their first ceremony.

    This time, the celebration was held in front of 150 guests, including Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Charlize Theron, Ed Norton, Woody Harrelson and Stella McCartney.

    During the ceremony, music kicked in and the guests serenaded the couple with a Hawaiian-style version of The Wizard of Oz classic Over the Rainbow.

    Later, at the elegant reception, Hayek, Theron and Harrelson joined Bono on stage to sing Stand By Me.

    At one point Theron and McCartney sang Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, from Evita.

    Hayek, who by then had changed from a Balenciaga wedding gown for a knee-length fuscia dress, then joined them for the Rolling Stones’ Satisfaction.

    By 3am the reception was winding down as one of the last guests, Lucy Liu, departed on foot.

    “It was all about love, family and friends,” a wedding guest to People.com.

  • No More Overseas Travel For Wesley Snipes


    Wesley Snipes’ recent partying may cost him his freedom to travel overseas. Wesley Snipes, who has been sentenced to a 3-year imprisonment for income tax evasion, has been temporarily set free after posting a $1 million bond pending his appeal. However, he was authorized to go on a working trip to Vancouver, London and Bangkok. Unwittingly, Wesley Snipes made an unauthorized stop in Dubai where he parties with stars like Michael Jordan, Denzel Washington, Janet Jackson and Charlize Theron during the gala opening of the $1.5 billion hotel Atlantis the Palm in Dubai.

    After seeing photographs of his unauthorized stopover in Dubai, federal prosecutors will most likely refuse to allow him to travel overseas again. Wesley Snipes is however requesting permission to travel to Namibia to reshoot some of his scenes for his new movie Gallowwalker. He is also requesting foreign travel to Torino, Italy to shoot scenes for another new movie “Game of Death”.

  • Charlize Theron UN’s messenger of peace

    Beauty and a beautiful heart seem to work together when it comes to Charlize Theron, the latest messenger of peace of the United Nations. The Academy Award winning actress is the latest addition to the growing UN celebrity family including Nicole Kidman, Michael Douglas and George Clooney.

    Theron, who was named the U.N. Messenger of Peace with special focus on ending violence against women, was chosen as UN’s representative because of her active stance not only against sexual violence against women but also because of her efforts in improving the lives of South African women and children suffering from poverty and HIV-AIDS. The South African beauty has made her presence felt in her homeland through the establishment of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.

    Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, acknowledged Theron’s contribution in making this world a better place through her special relationship with the public. While humbled by her appointment, Theron admitted she could not just ignore the issue considering that she grew up in South Africa where there is rampant violence against women.

    Theron said people can help women by entering rural communities in South Africa and providing them education, understanding and information in simple matter that those in the West take for granted like the facts that one cannot use a condom twice even if you wash them or that HIV is not cured by raping a virgin.
