  • Gary Coleman’s ex-wife defends decision

Gary Coleman’s ex-wife turned off his life support because she did not want him to be left in a vegetative state.

Shannon Price, who is battling the TV star’s parents for custody of his body, said Coleman could not be saved after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

“The doctors told us that even if they had done surgery on him he would have died,” she said.

“He would’ve bled to death during the surgery. Even if they did take a chunk out of his brain, he would not be the same.

“He’d basically be like Muhammad Ali … I mean, Gary was gone.”

Although Coleman, 42, and Price, 24, were divorced at the time of his death, the hospital where he died has confirmed that the actor gave Price written permission to make medical decisions on his behalf.

It was on Friday – two days after Coleman collapsed at his home in Santaquin, Utah, that she decided to turn off his life support machine.

“Look what happened to Terri Schiavo,” Price said – referring to the controversial right-to-life case in Florida. “I always think of her case when it comes to this.”

She added: “I don’t want people to be so hard on me thinking I had to pull the plug too early. He wouldn’t have made it anyway. His heart would have just given out.

“I don’t want people to sit there and think I’m a b**** and that I didn’t care about him.”

  • Becks has security beefed up following kidnap fears

    SPL106112_001

David Beckham has been given an armed bodyguard for his three months with Italian football giant AC Milan.

The England mid-fielder has reportedly had his security beefed up as club chiefs fear he could fall prey to kidnappers.

There are also concerns that violent fans might get too close to the high-profile player if he is not provided with extra protection.

Fifty security guards will constantly shadow the 34-year-old football star and his team-mates, following fears they could be targeted by fans, according to reports.

A source told a UK newspaper: “Some of the fans in Milan are pretty wild and need to be kept at a safe distance from the players.

“[They] have been known to invade the training pitch and mob the players. Things can turn pretty nasty.”

But Beckham received a warm welcome from one security guard at least, when he turned up for his first day’s training at AC Milan’s training ground – the two are old friends following the footballer’s previous three-month loan spell from LA Galaxy.
