Michael Douglas and Glenn Close reunited on TV 22 years after Fatal Attraction
Fatal Attraction stars Michael Douglas and Glenn Close were reunited on screen for the first time in 22 years to reminisce on an Oscars TV special.
The pair tried to kill each other in the classic movie about a cheating husband’s affair going disastrously wrong – but they shared a warm hug and some memories.
Close recalled how she drank half a pitcher of margaritas for a steamy elevator sex scene in her role as an obsessed scorned mistress.
The stars were brought together by Oprah Winfrey for her Oscars Special.
Close told Douglas how she was gripped by the original script but had doubts about the infamous scene where her character literally boils a bunny.
She said: “I thought it was over the top.”
And recalling the elevator sex scene, she said: “I asked for a pitcher of margaritas and I drank about half of it.”
Douglas joked: “You were pretty good. I was a very happy guy.”
Close was “so mad” when the ending of the movie was changed to see her character shot dead by Douglas’s screen wife in a dramatic finale. But Douglas told her: “You were so good in the part everybody wanted you to be killed.”
After watching the classic clips, Douglas also sighed: “Man, I got older. You still look fantastic.”

Robert De Niro not planning to retire from acting
Hollywood actor Robert De Niro isn’t planning to retire despite the fact he was recently given a Lifetime Achievement Award.
De Niro, 66, recently attended AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards, where he picked up the prize.
He said: “I’ve only been doing this for about 40 years. It’s actually been longer, but what are they going to give me 40 years from now – the He Lived Too Long Award?”
De Niro added: “A couple of critics suggested it was maybe time for me to retire. I’m still a kid – always a kid. And like most kids, I’m very happy for the approval of grownups. Thank you and see you at the Kids Choice Awards.”

Actress Angelina Jolie has said the needs of the orphans in Haiti are ‘almost incalculable’.
The 34-year-old star, who is a mum to six young children herself, told of her support for SOS Children’s Villages, which provides long-term care for orphaned and abandoned children.
SOS’s CEO Heather Paul said that Jolie ‘has seen our work over the years firsthand – from Darfur refugee camps to rural areas of Africa and the Middle East… SOS is there before the tragedy, during the tragedy, and long after the cameras have gone home. So is Angelina Jolie’.
The Salt star also gave her comment in a statement and said that SOS has been looking after 300 abandoned or orphaned children and was also looking after over 4,000 children and families in Haiti.
She said: “That was before the earthquake. Now the needs for orphaned children are almost incalculable.”
She added: “As a long-time supporter of SOS, I have visited many of these unique villages personally. I can vouch for their commitment and care for the children.
“As the Haiti situation unfolds, and we all focus in on ways to help these desperate children – I ask you to please learn more about and consider supporting SOS Children’s Villages.”

The singer has recently been partying at Timbaland new release bash, while Jessica Biel has been away filming. This is what a source said about Justin Timberlake’s night out: “He certainly didn’t look like a man with a girlfriend. He was partying in the upstairs VIP area with his best friend, Trace Ayala, Brett Ratner and a group of girls. The girls were all over him, fighting to give him their numbers, and he seemed to be enjoying it. There was one model-type blonde he chatted to for a while.” Well, you definitely can’t blame the man for being young and attractive… and part of a former boy-band, but Justin Timberlake is a committed man. He’s probably just searching for a way out of that commitment.

Barbara Walters will feature the Jackson children, Sarah Palin and Kate Gosselin on her TV special The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009.
Whether or not Prince Michael I, Paris Katherine and Blanket have been interviewed for the program is not known.
The children, who are evidently being counted as one person, were shielded from the spotlight after their father Michael died suddenly in June.
Other picks are Lady GaGa, Adam Lambert, Glenn Beck, Tyler Perry, Brett Favre and South Carolina governor’s wife Jenny Sanford.
Veteran fireside journalist Walters has kept the tenth interview a secret. But it won’t be US President Barack Obama, as he filled the mystery slot in last year’s edition.
The program will air on ABC on December 9.

Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has said she is “thrilled” she is an inspiration to people.
The 33-year-old is mum to two young children with ex-husband Ryan Philippe and said she is happy to be an inspiration but just tries to get through her day like any other mum.
She said: “It isn’t anything I chose in life, it just sort of happened that way. We all just do the best we can.
“We’re all just people trying to get through life however we can… I’m thrilled to be any sort of inspiration to anyone!”
Reese, who was talking at the recent Avon Foundation for Women charity event at Cipriani in New York, also spoke about the new Avon fragrance she has launched, In Bloom.
She said: “I just wanted a scent memory of my childhood in Tennessee growing up. A lot of it is white flowers and gardenias and things that I grew up in the backyard loving.
“Things that I smelled on my mother and my grandmother that really inspired a feeling of being back home.”

Film Director Steven Spielberg has been awarded with an honour for his artistic and humanitarian work.
The 62-year-old Oscar winner received the Liberty Medal from former US president Bill Clinton at a ceremony at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
Spielberg was commended for “inspiring millions to better understand the abiding call of liberty”.
Clinton said: “We honour a man today who has always been able to make a simple story and make it scary, make a simple story and make it interesting, and make a simple story and remind us of the greatness in us all.”
Spielberg will receive a cash prize of US$100,000 from the Liberty Medal, but will donate it to foundation, the National Constitution Center claimed.
Other stars that have previously received the award include U2’s Bono and Nelson Mandela.

Russell Crowe’s rugby league pep talk
Russell Crowe has given one of his infamous pep talks to the Sydney rugby league team he co-owns.
Back from his UK stint as Robin Hood, Crowe put fire in the belly of the South Sydney “Rabbitohs” team, who have failed to make the finals.
“I want to win every year, there is not a single game or minute when it comes to South Sydney where my principal instinct is nothing but winning. It’s just not good enough and it is not what we are geared to do. But there is another guy around here who I know is as focused as I am and that is [coach] Jason Taylor.”
Crowe said the team would inch its way back. “Step-by-step we are getting to where we want to be, this season is the first time a South Sydney squad has scored more than 500 points in a season. Step-by-step we are getting to where we want to achieve, and that is to be a regular powerhouse in the NRL.”
Crowe was very confident in discussing the prospect of young English prop Sam Burgess joining the team. “He is very keen to join South Sydney, he has one green eye and one red eye already.”
But chief executive Shane Richardson was measured. “We still have a bit to go to get Sam. He is contracted to Bradford for next year so I don’t want to comment about when he will come, but the sooner we get him here the better.”

US First Lady takes a walk on Sesame Street with new friend Elmo
Michelle Obama has made a new friend and he’s short, red, furry and has an orange nose.
The 45-year-old US First Lady appeared with Elmo – the squeaky-voiced puppet from Sesame Street – in a TV ad to encourage children to eat healthy food and exercise.
In the public service announcement that is aired in the US, Mrs Obama looks at the screen and tells parents: “If you want your child to have healthy habits, practice healthy habits because you’re your child’s best role model.”
Asked by her furry friend what she wanted to do on Sesame Street she said: “First I want to get some exercise so I want to take a walk around Sesame Street.”
Delighted at her suggestion, Elmo said: “Well if Mrs Obama exercises, Elmo wants to exercise too. Yay, exercise!”
The First Lady didn’t have time to speak to viewers at home for long before her new friend, grabbing her hand and pulling her away, said: “Come on Mrs Obama.”

Hindu leaders concerned about Julia Roberts film
Hindu leaders fear that Julia Roberts’ new movie will portray their religion in a negative light.
The Pretty Woman actress is currently filming Eat, Pray, Love, based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling memoir of the same name.
According to US reports, shooting is scheduled in India for the third week of September, and has sparked concerns about whether the film will portray Hinduism and yoga authentically.
Rajan Zed, the head of the Universal Society of Hinduism, told the New York Post: “Hinduism and its belief system are quite often misunderstood and incorrectly depicted outside India.
“The people of India will be anxious to see how perfectly Roberts does her job of cleaning ashram floors as a part of her devotional duty, trying to recite 182-verse Sanskrit chant, and going through gruelling hours of meditation, while being feasted on by mosquitoes.”

The 27-year-old actress was at the Chelsea Flower Show in the UK with her mum Jo when she was overheard chatting about the flower.
A source said: “Sienna was holding her mother’s hand while they walked around the flower show’s VIP day.”
The source added: “She whispered to her mother: ‘I want a beautiful English rose to be named Sienna after me. What do you think?’”
The source added: “She claimed she was just in her ‘old country gear’ but looked rather glam in ivory earrings and flat black boots.”

Russell Crowe says he still dislikes journalists, despite playing one in his latest movie, State of Play.
Crowe, 45, plays a newspaper journalist who investigates a murder under the watchful eye of his editor, played by Dame Helen Mirren.
However, Crowe refuses to change his opinion on the media.
Asked if he now has any sympathy for reporters, the Gladiator actor said:
“Absolutely none whatsoever, no. You tell me why I should. You give me the list and I’ll listen to it.”
Crowe’s co-star Mirren said she loved working with him.
“I think a lot of people rather secretly wanted to boss Russell Crowe about but I got the opportunity to do it.
“He was just so cool and great to work with. I loved it,” she said on GMTV.

Beauty and a beautiful heart seem to work together when it comes to Charlize Theron, the latest messenger of peace of the United Nations. The Academy Award winning actress is the latest addition to the growing UN celebrity family including Nicole Kidman, Michael Douglas and George Clooney.
Theron, who was named the U.N. Messenger of Peace with special focus on ending violence against women, was chosen as UN’s representative because of her active stance not only against sexual violence against women but also because of her efforts in improving the lives of South African women and children suffering from poverty and HIV-AIDS. The South African beauty has made her presence felt in her homeland through the establishment of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.
Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, acknowledged Theron’s contribution in making this world a better place through her special relationship with the public. While humbled by her appointment, Theron admitted she could not just ignore the issue considering that she grew up in South Africa where there is rampant violence against women.
Theron said people can help women by entering rural communities in South Africa and providing them education, understanding and information in simple matter that those in the West take for granted like the facts that one cannot use a condom twice even if you wash them or that HIV is not cured by raping a virgin.

Jessica Alba will join the Cancer fight
You can see the superstars fighting each other with teasing remarks in a race for glory, but when it comes to the fight against the diseases and helping the poor, they stand side by side and prove that they are real superstars.
Jessica Alba has also agreed to join her fellow stars in a fight against cancer. The event named “Stand Up to Cancer” is a live fund-and-awareness-raising television special.
Jessica Alba will join more than 60 other celebrities including Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Garner, Diane Keaton, Sharon Osbourne, Keanu Reeves, Carrie Underwood, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Lance Armstrong, Charlize Theron and Forest Whitaker.
The competitive television networks have also united for the event as it will be aired simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS.
“Put aside your competitive issues and come together for the greater good,” said executive producer Laura Ziskin. -
Madonna to adopt again
Madonna is desperate to adopt a second child from Malawi.
The ‘Give It 2 Me’ singer wants to give a home to two-year-old girl Mercy James – whose mother died in childbirth and lives in an orphanage – but the child’s family have said they are “not interested” in the proposition.
Madonna, 49, tried to push the adoption through last year, but Mercy’s uncle John Nglande blocked it. The star reportedly renewed attempts to adopt the toddler in May by sending aides to speak to her family, but they are only prepared to go ahead with the plan if Mercy is returned to them when she is six years old.
Mercy’s grandmother Anaphiri is quoted as saying: “When Mercy is no longer a baby we want her back. I do not want the money they said they’d give me.”
Madonna’s adoption of two-year old Malawian David Banda – a process she began in 2006 – was finalised earlier this year. It was claimed the singer had received special treatment as laws which ban non-residents from adopting children in the country were ignored.
She was widely criticised when it was discovered that while David’s mother had died, his father was still alive and had been visiting him in his orphanage.
It was confirmed yesterday that Asienti Mwale, the women who raised David in Malawi, died on Sunday night of pneumonia.
