Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner to step out for kids’ cultural charity

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner will get behind a children’s charity.

The star couple will host Children Mending Hearts’s annual fundraiser, Peace Please, at the Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theatre.

Affleck said: “It is deeply rewarding to be a part of an organisation that makes a profound difference in lives of children, through the power of arts and cultural programs,” Affleck said. “I am thrilled to be part of this year’s event.”

The star of Pearl Harbour and Good Will Hunting was spotted out with his actress wife in smart evening wear.

Garner is also on the charity’s host committee along with Michelle Williams, Forest and Keisha Whitaker, Sheryl Crow, Kate Walsh and Hank Azaria and Katie Wright. Children Mending Hearts supports the education, empowerment and encouragment of children finding their voice through creative expression.

The fundraiser will benefit cultural and arts exchange programs as well as at-risk children in the US and refugee children suffering from armed conflict worldwide.

Wanted: someone to match Denzel Washington’s $50,000 donation

How come Madonna’s divorce is front page news but Denzel Washington’s kind-heartedness do not even get front page treatment? Denzel Washington recently donated $50,000 to the Roswell Boys & Girls Club. Denzel Washington was in Albuquerque filming “The Book of Eli” when he heard that the club was having financial troubles and is in danger of being closed down.

The two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington is a spokesman for the Boys & Girls Club of America. Roswell club director Art Garcia thanked Denzel Washington’s support and at the same time challenged the residents to match the donation given by Denzel Washington. The challenge seems to have worked because as Art Garcia said, some private persons and groups have started to respond to the challenge.

Singer Pink to give donation to Aussie bushfire victims

Singer Pink has joined the growing list of celebrities who are doing their bit to help the victims of the recent bushfires that enraged the state of Victoria in Australia some 9 days ago. She plans to make a donation to the relief fund that has been created to channelize money for Australia’s bushfire victims.

According to reports the singer plans to make a donation worth $250,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, which will ultimately be used in the rebuilding of the communities across the Aussie state of Victoria.

That’s some kind of money really a nice bit of sum that would help either relocated people to newer homes or rebuild those homes that can be repaired. But the fact remains that the bushfire is amongst the ugliest I have ever seen. It spread so quickly that is was able to kill more than 200 people.

I’m sure the Australian government is also doing a lot to help the victims and really wish that each victim receives all the help needed.

Pamela Anderson wants fur-free clothes for Christmas

More specifically, the star wants Stella McCartney’s designs which are all supposedly fur free. She is an ardent campaigner of PETA and loves the designer’s clothes that do not make animals suffer: “All I want for Christmas is Stella McCartney. You feel very alive wearing her clothes and knowing nothing has been killed.” Of course, the industry that produces the synthetic materials required to make clothes doesn’t harm a living thing. She also says she’s giving up all of her leather boots: “I’m getting rid of my UGGs. I feel so guilty for that craze being started around my ‘Baywatch’ days – I used to wear them with my red swimsuit to keep warm – never realizing that they were SKIN! I thought they were shaved kindly. People like to tell me all the time that I started that trend – yikes!” Well, thank god for her great influence with some people!

WILL SMITH = HUMANITARIAN

The highest paid actor this year is also a good humanitarian.
While Will was in Miami promoting his latest film, Seven Pounds, he took some time to visit patients at Miami Children’s Hospital.
I must say his humanitarian efforts are in perfect sync with his movie promotion.
Will went to the hospital and gave out handed out stuffed animals and DVDs to the young patients. He also took the time in talking with them and snapping photos together.
Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation President, Lucy Morillo, said “We were deeply moved by Will Smith’s donation and the true spirit of joy he brought to the many young patients being treated here. We are very appreciative of his heartfelt support and honored to have such a celebrated figure as part of our Miami Children’s Hospital family.”
And that’s not even the best part. He even made a donation, for an undisclosed amount, to the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Charlize Theron UN’s messenger of peace

Beauty and a beautiful heart seem to work together when it comes to Charlize Theron, the latest messenger of peace of the United Nations. The Academy Award winning actress is the latest addition to the growing UN celebrity family including Nicole Kidman, Michael Douglas and George Clooney.

Theron, who was named the U.N. Messenger of Peace with special focus on ending violence against women, was chosen as UN’s representative because of her active stance not only against sexual violence against women but also because of her efforts in improving the lives of South African women and children suffering from poverty and HIV-AIDS. The South African beauty has made her presence felt in her homeland through the establishment of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, acknowledged Theron’s contribution in making this world a better place through her special relationship with the public. While humbled by her appointment, Theron admitted she could not just ignore the issue considering that she grew up in South Africa where there is rampant violence against women.

Theron said people can help women by entering rural communities in South Africa and providing them education, understanding and information in simple matter that those in the West take for granted like the facts that one cannot use a condom twice even if you wash them or that HIV is not cured by raping a virgin.

Cancer patients receive support from actress Hilary Swank

Heartening to see that a select few of Hollywood celebrities use their fame for a good cause. Actress Hilary Swank has made an appeal to help a charity which is involved in the making of wigs used by women who experience hair loss caused by cancer. Hilary too underwent a hair cut and trimmed her hair short while preparing for a new role in a movie where she is to play aviator Amelia Earheart.

The rules of the charity requires she cut her hair to the minimum of eight inches, she did oblige and donated her hair to the charity named Beautiful Lengths, saying “A lot of my family members have had their lives devastated by cancer”.

Hats off to Hilary Swank that amidst all of the turmoil that other super celebrities always manage to enroll themselves into she can somehow find something worth raising a voice for and leading by example.

The hot and strikingly beautiful actress traveled from October 22-23, to regions where thousands of former refugees have returned to the country to face swarming and nasty conditions.

The 33-year-old heartthrob Jolie wrote on her website, “The courage, resilience and quiet dignity of returnee families rebuilding their lives against the kind of adversity few of us can imagine shows the human spirit at its best.”

Jessica Alba will join the Cancer fight

You can see the superstars fighting each other with teasing remarks in a race for glory, but when it comes to the fight against the diseases and helping the poor, they stand side by side and prove that they are real superstars.

Jessica Alba has also agreed to join her fellow stars in a fight against cancer. The event named “Stand Up to Cancer” is a live fund-and-awareness-raising television special.

Jessica Alba will join more than 60 other celebrities including Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Garner, Diane Keaton, Sharon Osbourne, Keanu Reeves, Carrie Underwood, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Lance Armstrong, Charlize Theron and Forest Whitaker.

The competitive television networks have also united for the event as it will be aired simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS.
“Put aside your competitive issues and come together for the greater good,” said executive producer Laura Ziskin.

Angelina adopted a rape-conceived child

Mentwabe Dawit is the biological mother of the two year old little girl, Zatara, Angelina Jolie adopted. Recently she came forward to the press with a surprising story.
It seems that her daughter has been conceived during a creepy night, down on an alley, where she had been raped by a villain.
Unable to make an abortion in her country, scared and not ready for motherhood, Mentwabe Dawit had the child but soon became unable to feed her. Ravished, she seeks refuge away from the baby, and so Zatata got to be adopted by Angelina.
I know Joile has a big heart and all, but I’m starting to wonder if she adopted the little girl just because she felt connected to her or the tragic story behind her birth had something to do with her decision…we all know how she loves good publicity.

Ferrell auctions movie role for charity.

Will Ferrell is auctioning a cameo spot in his new movie to raise money for a fraternity brother’s cancer foundation.

Ferrell came up with the idea to help Craig Pollard’s Cancer for College foundation. The two were fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California.

Online bidding will begin Monday and close Sept. 26. Ferrell will announce the winner on Sept. 27, and that person will meet the actor the next day at the 14th annual Cancer for College golf tournament dinner at Temecula Creek Inn.

The opening bid for the movie appearance is $5,000.

In October, the winner will join Ferrell on set of his new movie, “Step Brothers,” and appear in a scene.

“What a perfect Christmas present for your son or daughter,” Ferrell said. “It is the surefire way to win the parent of the year award. Support this amazing cause, by buying them me.”

Pollard, a two-time survivor of Hodgkin’s disease, started Cancer for College to provide college scholarships to current and former cancer patients. The charity has awarded $200,000 to 50 cancer survivors since 1993.

Singer/actress/designer Beyonce and her former Destiny’s Child band mate Kelly Rowland can not add one more slash to their resume, and the word is landlord!

They may no longer be singing together but that doesn’t mean they can’t work together as the two have reunited to open an apartment building for at risk populations in Houston. Wow.

It’s going to be called the ‘Knowles-Rowland Temenos Place Apartments’. It’s going to be a 43 unit, single room occupancy housing facility for both men and women who are taking steps to improve their lives after traumatic events of both natural and personal disasters.

They should save a spot for Britney.

Here we go again! Rumor on the block is that Halle Berry is knocked up. Producers have pushed back plans on filming “Tulia” in October because Berry is 3 months pregnant. Yup, she is! Halle Berry confirmed to Access Hollywood her happy baby news on Tuesday. The actress told the TV show, “Yes, I am three months pregnant! Gabriel [Aubrey] and I are beyond excited, and I’ve waited a long time for this moment in life. I swear they make it sound like a rollercoaster ride (most fun theyve ever had)i am so into the idea of adopting but not with Angelina and brad, I mean they’re not even married and we know its not gonna last THE KIDS ARE GONNA BE AN EMOTINAL WRECK! having kids is a rollercoaster ride in itself and I think these two have made the decision that the more the merrier so instead of churning out kids themselves and having a waiting period of nearly an year, these guys have thought of adopting when ever they feel the need for one more to be added to the family. But what’s going to be unique about the Brad-Jolie family is that the kids are going to be from all around the world giving the kids an atmosphere that will be unrivalled at least in Hollywood coz I do not know how other’s around the world follow the adopting pattern.

Hollywood star Mel Gibson is tipped to reunite with Mad Max director George Miller in forthcoming superhero move Justice League. A number of A’ list stars are being linked with the film, which unites comic book heroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Flash. Reunion hahaa, they might be reuniting to produce a big time flop movie. Too many super stars in the same movie and what will each one of them being doing – something like Ocean’s movie, all of them parking in the same parking lot and smashing each others window panes. You can pay big star big money but the most vital clog is having a good script where in all the actors have a significant role to play or else the audiences go to the theaters and find that their favorite movies star is looking more of a jerk delivering dialogues that make him look like a hotel gate attendant rather than a character.
