Alexander McQueen’s last collection previews to rave reviews in Paris

The last, unfinished collection of Alexander McQueen has previewed in Paris to rave reviews.

McQueen’s 16-piece autumn/winter collection was shown to an exclusive clutch of fashion scribes on Tuesday.

The fashion designer, deeply depressed, took his own life at the age of 40 in his Mayfair apartment in London in February. Fashion’s elite, gathered in Paris for its Fashion Week, is in mourning.

His last creations are inspired by paintings of the Old Masters, according to Christina Binkley of the Wall Street Journal. She writes: “Entire works of art by Botticelli, Jean Fouquet and Hans Memling were photographed and woven into jacquards, imprinted on silks or embroidered onto garments.”

AFP reports the appearance of the first model in McQueen’s showing caused audible gasps. The Times’ fashion director Hilary Alexander said: “The showing was an emphatic demonstration of the intense skill and artistry of McQueen, but all the more tragic for being such a brief and poignant reminder of what the fashion world has lost.”

Fans leave flowers, kisses outside Alexander McQueen store

Fans of Alexander McQueen paid their respects to the late fashion designer outside his shop in West Hollywood on Thursday.

Flowers, lit candles and even a lipstick kiss were left in tribute at the celebrated designer’s store on Melrose Avenue.

One message written in lipstick on the store’s front window read: “R.I.P. You Will Live on,” and was decorated with a kiss.

Another said: “You are a true visionary & artist of the highest order.”

All shared the common theme that the so-called bad-boy of fashion will be sorely missed.

McQueen’s L.A. store was closed on Thursday following the news of his death.

McQueen, 40, was found dead at his luxury mansion at his luxury million-pound flat in central London’s exclusive Green Park area.

It is been reported he hung himself after becoming depressed following the death of his beloved mum Joyce a week ago.

Beckhams design Sport Relief T-shirts

The Beckham family have designed this year’s official Sport Relief 2010 T-shirts .

David, 34, and wife Victoria, 35, and their three young sons have come up with the designs that they hope will inspire people to raise money for charity.

The T-shirts will soon be going on sale in Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx.

Talking about their participation, David said: “Victoria and I are excited to be involved with Sport Relief again this year. Our family had a great time designing the T-shirt range and we hope it will raise much-needed funds for many important causes.

“The most important thing is that the money raised will make a genuine difference to people’s lives.”

Tom Cruise suing apparel company

An apparels company is planning to launch T-shirts which will be using images of Tom Cruise combined with slogans such as “Everything Turns Me On” & “Sex Addict” to sell their garments which has infuriated Tom and he plans legal action against the apparel company if at all they go ahead and put the T-shirts on the market.

The star of such movies like Mission Impossible is planning to take every step needed to stop this from happening as he feels it would damage his image. Aaron Moss, Tom’s lawyer has sent a written legal warning to Addictiontree.com telling them not to advertise the garments using his image. But Addictiontree.com has not responded and intend to use Tom’s image on their T-shirts.

Gee man, these could just be the introductory slogan “Sex Addict” could soon be “Call Me For…” and later “The Key To Good Sex Is Me” if this is allowed to happen then Tom might become the favourite of the top porn movie makers in Hollywood. All in all not a bad career option once he retires from acting in big budgeted movies.

YSL’s private art collection sold

The art collection of late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent has gone under the hammer and there have been bids in the tune of £181 million for a piece the French couturier’s magnificent art collection. A painting by Henri Matisse which is a part of the collection has been auctioned for a record £31.4 million.

Cuckoos on a blue and pink carpet smashed the previous record for similar work by the French painter set in 2007. This bid was made on the opening day of the 3 day auction of the collection that belongs to the late fashion designer and his former partner Pierre Berge.

Who says there is any kind of recession, at least these words are true for the utterly rich people who are willing to spend millions on a painting that would at the most be an object at a famous gallery or their Monte Carlo mansion.

Is there anything better these people have learnt to do with their money and does it at all make sense to anyone out there that £181 million worth of painting be bought when financial companies across the world are losing such money every month.

Fashion line for ‘curvy girls’ la Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson has flopped at a recently concert but she is still determined to make the headlines and she now claims that she knows enough about what kind of fashion curvy women want and therefore is all set to create a new fashion line for woman with a full figure.

As recently as just last month Jessica Simpson hit the headlines when pictures of her looking somewhat heavier were taken while she was on stage during a concert. That prompted fashion aficionados to criticise her for her weight gain.

She says, “I want to create clothes that flatter every figure. I know how a dress can make you feel so frumpy. We want to reach every type of person. I know what flatters a woman, and trust me, I’ve been judged a lot in my life. By now I know what works if you’re curvy.”

I agree Jessica has had to put up with all sorts of judgments on how she looks, acts & sings. So, i do believe she is at liberty to know, what us bigger size women need.

Kids Hoodies belonging to Gwen Stefani’s fashion line recalled

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a notification wherein it has stated that it is recalling sweat shirts (particularly kids’ hooded) from the fashion line Harajuku Lovers which belongs to singer Gwen Stefani.

The price of each one of these kids’ hoodies which sell at departmental store across the US are priced at $75 and the reason for the recall is that the hoods of the sweat shirts have a drawstring which according to the consumer safety authorities could pose a strangulation hazard.

$75! That’s damn expensive! Probably that’s the only reason I can find why the string could cause strangulation. It would strangle someone before they realized the hoodie was a ripoff and take it back for a refund.

I guess none of these celebrities ever want to create a budget fashion line because they fear if the word budget is in sync with their high profile names then it would be considered down market. Affordable is not the thing they want to create unaffordable things so that the stores never run out of stock.

Rumor has it that Louis Vuitton is trying to snap Madonna to be the face of their new Spring 2009 campaign. The Queen of Pop will join the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson and Uma Thurman who have all lent their looks for the brand. Rumors are going around that the ads have already been shot by fashion photographer dream team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. What the heck took LV so long before signing Madonna to a campaign? She’s been the face of music for over the last 20 years. Granted she may not have the perfect face but she sells.

Rihanna for Gucci and UNICEF

Rihanna has just been selected by Gucci as the face of its new UNICEF campaign. The campaign is called ‘Tattoo Heart’ and it will offer a line of special edition Gucci products featuring a tattoo style heart theme. 25% of the proceeds from sales will benefit UNICEF. Gucci creative director Frida Giannini said that the fashion house selected the Barbadian babe for its first UNICEF ads because of her strong personality and feeling that “a musician and a beautiful woman was the perfect icon for this campaign.” I couldn’t have said that better myself. Rihanna is just perfect for their campaign.

LL Cool J: Fashion Designer

LL Cool J recently launched a fitness book and now he’s doing just what every other rapper has done by launching a new clothing line exclusive to Sears. The rapper signed the deal back in May and he was recently in Chicago to hold a press conference for his collection. The LL Cool J Collection debuted in 450 stores with some locations having its own dedicated sections and is also being sold online. The marketing campaign includes shots of him with his wife and four kids and has ads online, by print and in stores. His line includes “embroidered denim, cotton hooded sweatshirts, fleur-de-lis bejeweled T-shirts and other items.” Items begin at $24 for shirts, some jeans at $50 and $60 for outerwear.

She was wearing little fairy wings on her back and shared her children’s costumes for the Halloween holiday with the press reporters. She said, “Leni will be a bumblebee and the boys are both going to be Superman. Johan is completely easy, and he’ll be anything. He doesn’t care.”

About her own costume, she told, “I can’t say. It’s a surprise. I always have an outrageous outfit. I always try to top myself every year.”

I am sure that she herself will be SUPERGIRL because she is otherwise a supergirl and does not need the help of costumes to become one!!!

The latest addition in this never-ending list of celebrities running their own designer’s outfits will be the Maxim magazine’s number one sex kitten Marisa Miller.

The recently introduced Victoria’s Secret Angel Marisa Miller unveiled the latest fragrance – “Very Sexy Dare” on September 16 at the Victoria’s Secret Store at Herald Square.

The scorching hot babe expressed her wish to become a designer for the company. She said, “I’d love to design my own swim collection for them. Heidi (Klum) does the lipsticks, I would love to one day do the bikinis.”

This is what good girls should do – planning for their future in advance.

It looks like Britney Spears is up to her old tricks by making crazy requests of LA shopkeepers. Gatecrasher is reporting that Britney walked into a Betsey Johnson boutique on Melrose Ave. in LA and wanted them to copy a Dolce & Gabbana dress – than very day and in all white. When they explained to the pop wreck that they couldn’t do it, Britney decided to take a wig instead – a yellow one on a window mannequin for $100.

In other Britney news, her mother Lynne is reportedly singing praises of her ex-husband Jamie, telling people that he’s “stepped up to the plate”. He’s certainly doing better than you have!

Spice Girl Victoria Beckham stands only at 5’6” tall so if you wanted to take her home in bag (though I’m not quite sure why), you can. After all of these years, someone finally figured that out.

Posh’s legs are featured in the new Spring 08 campaign for Marc Jacobs and it is hilarious. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be fashionable or just make Posh look like a huge joke. It’s much like the Marc Jacobs reverse heels that she’s wearing. Honestly, who would wear that? Victoria and Parker Posey can be your answers but I don’t really see that being a fashion trend.

Breaking the peace – Amy Winehouse

London has been quiet over the festive period, but that is all bound to change now Amy Winehouse has returned to home soil. And the break away with Bryan Adams for Christmas doesn’t seem to have improved her mental state any.

Erratic Amy obviously deemed the flight a perfect time to put on a mini one-woman fashion show. No less than three clothing changes before she touched down on English soil following her Caribbean holiday.

She strolled into Barbados airport (where she kipped on a sofa) wearing a flowery crop top, then swapped it for her notorious red bra and an East 17-inspired string vest. It did not take long for her to realise that England is not quite as balmy as the Caribbean and swiftly changed again into a grey T-shirt and beige cardigan

Not only did the holiday not seem to improve her craziness, but Amy looked no different at all. Not a tan in sight – in fact if anything she just looks a bit dirtier. Is there no helping this woman?

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Katherine Heigl got married last weekend to singer Josh Kelley. There were reportedly a lot of her co-stars there, including TR Knight which may just be the reason that Isaiah Washington wasn’t there. But then again, he wasn’t that liked anyway.

OK! reports that Katherine walked down the aisle in an Oscar de la Renta gown and to a song written for her by her now husband Josh. TR was said to be a groomsman while Sandra Oh, Kate Walsh and Justin Chambers were attendees.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! May you prove the Hollywood love curse to be a myth.

Mr. Beck Sports Armani

All I can say to this story is yum, yum, yum. I think I have just converted to being a soccer fan.

David Beckham, the better half of the Becks, is really going out of his way to show how, umm, HUGE of a star he is. He’s taken some time off the field to model for Armani’s underwear ad campaign.

The ads are–popping up–in black and white and are, for lack of a better word, amazing. I’m ready to shell out some cash for underwear, pictures, a night with Beck, whatever they’re selling.

Mmm, mmm, good.
