  • Molly Ringwald’s dieting rule of thumb

    SPL163186_005

Molly Ringwald, 42, turned out at the Oscars in a slender, Trojan-style gown that made the recent birth of her twins seem eons away.

But the actress laid her fine form to working out and a simple rule of thumb. Always choose something green.

She told People Magazine: “I try to make sure that I eat something green. I think that’s just a really good rule of thumb. I love all different kinds of vegetables, but the green ones are generally the best for you and the best for your diet.”

Ringwald, who stars in The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, just eight months ago gave birth to Adele Georgiana and Roman Stylianos. She said that getting into her current Oscars shape was a matter of “Just dieting basically. And it wasn’t even like a really strict diet. It was more just a sensible diet, cutting down on sweets and upping the vegetables and protein, less starch, and I just worked out a lot, I’d say about three or four times a week.”

  • Charlize Theron’s ’style boob’ Oscars dress is talk of town

    SPL163350_001

Charlize Theron’s 1940s-style Oscars gown has landed her on a myriad of worst-dressed lists.

The sultry South African beauty chose satin rosettes that encircled her covered nipples in an unusual move that set her lilac-toned dress far apart from the glittering crowd.

Just when it seemed women’s breasts were becoming unremarkable, the dress has been tagged a “style boob” and “controversial”. Theron, a past Oscar-winner, in footage from the audience at the ceremony seemed to pick up on the vibe early on. Her expression was uncertain and flat.

Joan Rivers lambasted the dress, which was designed by John Galliano for Dior, as that featuring Cinnabon cakes, TimesLive reports.

South African designer Abigail Keats said: “A very controversial dress. What is the point of those roses? Honestly, they look stupid. So many South African designers would [have been] honoured to dress her but instead she attends the Oscars in this? Why?”

South Africa fashion blogger Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly wrote: “Sadly, Charlize Theron gets my worst-dressed award at this year’s Oscars. Dior’s lilac creation with Chelsea bun breast rosettes and a train is just horrible.”

Cape Town designer Malcolm Kluk, who has dressed Theron, said: “I’m hoping it’s just a bad picture. She usually has very good taste in clothes. It might be part of her contract with Dior to wear what they tell her.”

But US stylist and fashion commentator Mary Alice Stephenson said: “Charlize’s dress was really dramatic. Love it or hate it, you want to talk about it.”

  • Mo’Nique speaks about refusal to shave hairy legs

MoNique photoAcademy Award winner Mo’Nique has spoken out about a prickly subject – her refusal to shave her hairy legs.

The 42-year-old star says she tried to trim her leg hair once but never again.

She said: “If you have seen my legs, I am 42 and I’m very hairy.

“The older you get, your hair drops off.

“So as a younger woman, I was even hairier.

“I tried shaving one time and it was so uncomfortable and so painful. When it grew back, it grew back even thicker and more of it.

“I said never again would I do that to myself.”

Interviewed for Barbara Walters Oscar Special, the host asked how her husband feels about her grooming habit.

“He loves the hairy legs,” said Mo’Nique.

  • Alec Baldwin revealed he was surprised to be picked for the gig

    SPL152996_005

Oscars co-host Alec Baldwin revealed he was surprised to be picked for the gig.

Baldwin, the 30 Rock star, comedian and on-screen lawyer in many movies, was chosen along with Steve Martin to guide the hallmark event through its well-worn paces on Sunday.

Baldwin said: “Adam Shankman called me to ask if I’d [host] with Steve Martin, and I had to make sure he had the right number. So I said, ‘You know who you’re calling, right? This is 212′.”

Baldwin was last year self-deprecating when he in effect called his acting career a shemozzle.

Digital Spy notes Baldwin’s comments when he was asked last month if he ever considered another career. Baldwin was honoured at a New York lawyer’s gathering for his many roles as a lawyer. He said: “I didn’t know if I wanted to join a field that was becoming as crowded and choked as law was.”

  • Up In The Air author tweets for seat at Oscars

    SPL132179_029

The author of Up In The Air was left off the guest list for the upcoming Academy Awards, UPI reports.

Walter Kirn, who was eventually invited to the March 7 ceremony where his movie is one of those in the running for Best Picture, said he only received an invite after he complained online.

Kirn took to Twitter last week to complain that Paramount Pictures had not invited him to the Oscars. He tweeted: “Novelists are like oil in H’wood: they drill us, pipeline us, pump us and then burn us.”

Kirn’s off-beat, comic film starring George Clooney has played to much acclaim and has picked up other Oscar nods for its cast and director, Jason Reitman.

Of his belated Oscars ticket, Kirn tweeted: “Thanks to Paramount Pictures for coming through with Oscar tickets and proving true to its word, which I shouldn’t have doubted.”

  • Sluumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto going places

The resounding success of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire has started paying dividends for the stars of the movie. It’s actress Freida Pinto, formerly an unknown personality in Hollywood has caught the imagination of paparazzi with her outfits and now she is going to work in legendary filmmaker Woody Allen’s next movie.

Slumdog Millionaire’s success is being attributed to its feel good factor, amongst the great economic gloom people have like a film that has shown them that all is not over and there is hope that we can still recover from the current and in between there is love and happiness to be shared.

Speaking about her joy at landing the role Pinto says, “Yes, it’s up (beings) in July. So, thank you, Danny Boyle for helping me take off.” Well it seems that the dreams of this young actress have certainly taken off into the top flight and this should make her country proud of her.

It also shows that Hollywood welcomes everyone who has the talent and grit to make it big here and that dreams are fulfilled even today no matter what your background is.

  • Danny Boyle’s Oscar jumps:

The director of “Slumdog Millionaire” and winner of this year’s Academy Award for his work had a very happy beginning to his acceptance speech by jumping up three times, after of course speaking the magical word of beginning “uhm”. Danny Boyle explained his gesture with the following words: “My kids are probably too old to remember this now, but when they were much younger I swore to them that if this miracle ever happened that I would receive it in the spirit of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh and that’s what that was.” Well, it was certainly a lot more “user-friendly” than Sean Penn’s debut for his speech. And thank the lucky stars Danny Boyle remembered to remind us all of the man who choreographed the dance at the end of his movie whom he apparently left out of the credits, an individual by the name of Longinus. Well now, cheers to him too!

  • Sean Penn wins Best Actor at the Oscars’ for Milk

Sean Penn won the Best Actor award for the second time in his career for his role in the movie ‘Milk’. In the movie Sean portrays the role of a slain San Francisco gay rights named activist Harvey Milk and used his win to defend the right of same-sex couples to wed.

Before this he won the Best Actor Oscar for his lead role as a grieving father in “Mystic River.” And after this award Sean is being counted in many circles to be the finest actors on his time and has joined the ranks of great actors like Tom Hanks and the others.

Sean’s early career in Hollywood suggested that he was a complete maverick and a person known for his knockout punches with the paparazzi and for me that was a direct affect of his marriage to pop singer Madonna and her influence on him.

Today is he much more civilized if you can say that but whatever he is personally that does not take away from him that he is a truly fantastic actor. Several critics have said that his performance in Milk is his best ever in an already storied and versatile career.

  • This year’s Oscars’ to have Queen Latifah sing tribute songs

The amazingly talented and vivacious Queen Latifah will be singing the Oscar tribute song at this year’s Academy Awards night. This will be part of the Academy Award show’s In Memoriam montage wherein Hollywood’s deceased are honored with a tribute song.

Formerly a rapper Queen Latifah made her Oscar debut in the year 2003 where she sang the song “I Move On” from the film Chicago with Catherine Zeta-Jones. This year she will be singing “I’ll Be Seeing You” while there will be a large screen that will display photographs & movie clips of those who have passed away in the last year.

The great thing about this singer is that she can sing whatever is thrown at her, be it Jazz, Rap, R&B and even hip-hop. And for this you have to take a bow to her, I know she is not considered a heavyweight amongst contemporary artist but looking at her there is nothing left to doubt otherwise. Sorry if it is a bad joke.
