  • Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres in an all out war

The guys from American Idol really do have their work cut out for them. After some minor complaints about Simon Cowell being late for work, something he most probably is not used to since he’s usually the boss, Ellen DeGeneres is now in an all out war with the Earl of Exigency and they are no longer speaking with each other. This is what a source said about the crisis: “There’s two camps on the show this season. It’s a lot more tense than previous seasons. It seems as if Ellen has decided to try to take control since Simon is on his way out and that’s created problems.” The producers of American Idol could make this work to their advantage, though. Just imagine the ratings if Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres are “persuaded” to resolve their differences during a sing-off. Now that would be something everybody would want to see!

  • Stephen Baldwin regrets Miley Cyrus tattoo

    SPL144910_044

Celebrity Big Brother star Stephen Baldwin said he regrets the Miley Cyrus tattoo he had done.

The 43-year-old actor, who recently appeared in the UK reality show, told how he wished he had never had his body inked in reference to the Disney character.

Talking about his Hannah Montana tattoo, he said: “My daughters are big Hannah Montana fans and we met her at an event at the White House.

“She saw a tattoo of my wife’s name on my arm and told me I should get a Hannah Montana tattoo. I said if she gave me a guest-starring role on her show, I’d get the tattoo.”

He added: “I’ve already got 17 tattoos so another one doesn’t make a difference. I got a small one of her initials and next time I saw her, I showed her and she nearly fell off her chair.

“It’s unfortunate, I’ve lived up to my part of the bargain but she’s not yet to give me a guest-star role on her show.”

Asked if he will regret it in the future, he said: “Never mind years to come, I regret it now.”

  • Katy Perry’s career value

Is not very high, at least not to her eyes it seems. The singer recently admitted that she would very gladly give up her career just to be a judge on American Idol. This is what Katy Perry said on the matter: “The ‘American Idol’ experience was awesome. If I was offered that job as a permanent host, I would ditch my career and take on that career. It’s such a fun, easy thing. I mean, I guess the pressure gets really on when you start eliminating the number of people that are going through until you’ve got the final two. So that can be kind of tense and stressful, but otherwise it’s kind of like judging a talent show.” Well, Katy Perry must have really made a good impression with her judging skills from her recent experience. Everybody would probably love to have her in the judges’ box and certainly no one will ever lose the contest on her watch.

  • Brooke Mueller recovering

    SPL127686_076

Charlie Sheen’s wife Brooke Mueller is recovering at a treatment centre after “almost dying”, according to her stepfather.

Mueller is reportedly staying at the Two Dreams rehabilitation centre in North Carolina – but not for addiction treatment, according to her lawyer.

Instead, she is said to be there to recover from a bout of pneumonia, just weeks after the Christmas Day bust-up that led to Sheen’s arrest and charges of assault.

Now Mueller’s stepdad John Fiore said: “She is there. But it’s a recovery place, and it is in a resort setting and the picture I’d like to paint more is that she’s seeking help she wants to, she’s dealing with this.

“This is a lot to deal with and I commend her for finally, you know, she couldn’t go back to the house, what is she going to do? With all the problems and the stress? She’s getting help and her mother is with her.

“I commend her for that. The positiveness of this is that she is recognising that she needs help and she can’t do it on her own.

“The main thing is it is all about the kids. It really is. These kids are gorgeous, I miss them dearly. I was with them for a month straight and they’re just incredible kids.

“They’re young enough and hopefully this will all be behind them. The kids are still in California with Charlie and the nanny.”

Fiore added that she is “majorly stressed” and recovering from battling pneumonia and “almost dying”.

  • Male American Idol contestant gets flirty with Simon Cowell

    SPL96172_005

Simon Cowell was almost lost for words as a flirty male American Idol contestant asked him to get on top of him.

The show, now in its ninth season, hit Los Angeles for more auditions with guest judges Avril Lavigne, dressed in a horned-hoodie, and Katy Perry, wearing a revealing pink dress.

And things got a little awkward for Cowell when a raunchy male contestant followed up a flamboyant singing/dancing audition with some flirtatious comments.

Wannabe singer Jason Greene ended his over-the-top – and rather literal – performance of I Touch Myself on the floor, and the judges jokingly asked him to stay there while they gave comments.

“Want to come down and join me?” he asked a shocked Cowell.

“No,” barked the Brit, as the other judges laughed.

“Please … Do you want to spend a little bit of time on me?” added the contestant, before acknowledging he may have gone too far.

A gobsmacked Katy Perry said: “I feel dirty … and it takes a lot for me to feel dirty!”

The contestant was rejected and eventually left – after putting on an over-the-top dance routine on his way out and handing presenter Ryan Seacrest his phone number.

  • Jewel thief Doris Payne to be played by Halle Berry strikes again

    SPL139630_018

The film, titled Who Is Doris Payne?, is listed as in development only, with Berry’s (pictured) name the only actor attached to it and a 2010 release date.

  • US-Irish Alliance to honour Saoirse Ronan, JJ Abrams and Seamus McGarvey

    SPL143675_025

Saoirse Ronan, JJ Abrams and Seamus McGarvey will be honoured by the US-Ireland Alliance.

Actress Ronan, Abrams, a director, and McGarvey, a cinematographer-director, will be honoured at the fifth annual Oscar Wilde: Honouring the Irish in Film event to be held on March 4 at the Ebell of Los Angeles, just days before the Oscars on March 7.

Author Colum McCann will serve as master of ceremonies and the Irish band Bell X1 will perform.

Alliance president Trina Vargo said: “Academy Award nominees often feel the luck of the Irish from this event. Bill Monahan was honoured, and went on that year to win an Academy Award for The Departed. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova performed at the event just before winning an Academy Award for their song Falling Slowly. Last year, three nights before winning her first Oscar, Kate Winslet took the stage to honour her agent, Hylda Queally.”

  • Hope for Haiti reaches beyond record to raise $57m+

    SPL149540_005

The Hope for Haiti telethon reached over and above disaster relief records to raise a staggering $57 million – and counting.

The blockbuster tally emerged over the weekend following the star-studded call-a-thon put together at the 11th hour by George Clooney and Wyclef Jean and held on Friday.

Stars such as Rihanna, Bono, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and Madonna gave stirring performances, while countless others, including Mel Gibson, Meg Ryan, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Stevie Wonder and Cindy Crawford, manned the phones.

Clooney, who emerged in a goatee and plain sweater, said: “At the core of every religion is the belief that we care for one another, we take care of each other especially in times of need. The Haitian people need our help, they need to know they’re not alone, they need to know we still care.”

Lisa Paulsen, head of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, said the event has set a record for disaster relief telethons.

Broadcast from New York, Los Angeles, London and Haiti, it was beamed around the world by all the big US TV networks and streamed via YouTube and other internet channels with the aim of reaching into 640 million households. Recordings of the event were instantly available on iTunes and other music sites.

  • Angelina Jolie says needs of orphans in Haiti are ‘almost incalculable’

    SPL53667_037

Actress Angelina Jolie has said the needs of the orphans in Haiti are ‘almost incalculable’.

The 34-year-old star, who is a mum to six young children herself, told of her support for SOS Children’s Villages, which provides long-term care for orphaned and abandoned children.

SOS’s CEO Heather Paul said that Jolie ‘has seen our work over the years firsthand – from Darfur refugee camps to rural areas of Africa and the Middle East… SOS is there before the tragedy, during the tragedy, and long after the cameras have gone home. So is Angelina Jolie’.

The Salt star also gave her comment in a statement and said that SOS has been looking after 300 abandoned or orphaned children and was also looking after over 4,000 children and families in Haiti.

She said: “That was before the earthquake. Now the needs for orphaned children are almost incalculable.”

She added: “As a long-time supporter of SOS, I have visited many of these unique villages personally. I can vouch for their commitment and care for the children.

“As the Haiti situation unfolds, and we all focus in on ways to help these desperate children – I ask you to please learn more about and consider supporting SOS Children’s Villages.”

  • Chemistry sizzles between Kate Hudson and Gerard Butler

Chemistry between Kate Hudson and Gerard Butler is among delayed buzz from the Golden Globes.

Hudson, in a tight sculpted gown that mirrored her latest elaborate red-carpet wear, must have caught the eye of the Scottish movie hunk. At the very least.

But according to those in the know, sparks flew. Tabloid America says sources report Butler was all eyes for Hudson and would not leave a pre-Globes gathering without getting her number.

Us Weekly magazine reports: “Gerard told Kate she was the most beautiful girl in the room and that he adores her work. He was really locked in on her.”

Hudson has very recently broken up with baseball star Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez.

  • Taylor Swift’s new pond

It seems the singer wants to have her inspiration material right in her living room so Taylor Swift plans on building a pond for herself right there. This is what she said on the matter: “It’s going to be my fantasy world. There’s a pond in the living room… The pond is a moat around the fireplace and may possibly have koi fish in it.” Well, isn’t that sweet? And Taylor Swift deserves it! After all, a star of her magnitude has to keep them prizes rolling in, doesn’t she? And what better way to do this than having your own moat in the house. Still, Taylor Swift should make the fireplace look like a castle and instead of the koi fish she should get a mini sea-serpent. That might liven the place up even more.

The OC star, who has several celebrity exes including Sandra Bullock and Aniston – to whom he was engaged in the 1990s – said that he had run into a few of his former partners at the awards ceremony last Sunday.

He said: “I ran into Sandy [Bullock] and a lot of my exes there. It’s been 150 years, so if you can’t bury a hatchet after that amount of time…”

The Damages actor, 46, also revealed his thoughts about Aniston’s outfit – a black dress with a split up the side.

He enthused: “I thought she looked gorgeous!”

His comments have led many to wonder whether he and Aniston, 40, who is rumoured to be dating actor Gerard Butler, will rekindle their love.

  • Penelope Cruz on her ballet dancer days

    SPL143327_022

Penelope Cruz has spoken of the days when she dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer.

The Oscar-winning actress, 35, has revealed as a child she had no ambition to become a movie star.

Cruz won her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona but says ballet was her first goal.

She revealed: “I still can’t believe that I won the Oscar last year because of the way I grew up.

“Just to dream about becoming an actress and making a living out of that sounded like science fiction in my environment. You know, I come from a family where we had just what we needed to survive. So to dream about this type of job was crazy.”

Cruz studied for more than 10 years as a ballerina before turning to acting and still says she has a passion for dance.

She said of ballet: “I wish I could do that. Oh, my God. Nothing harder than that I think.”

Cruz added her dance training helped her land Hollywood roles.

She said: “If I hadn’t had the discipline of all those years in the dance world, it would have been much, much tougher.

“I mean, it goes too far sometimes. I mean, I used to take my toenails – they would die from dancing – so I would just take the whole toenail and throw it away, and not feel anything.

    “But I loved it.”

  • Demi Moore got the Globes blues

    SPL97510_001

Demi Moore was sorely missed at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.

The sleek actress, who is married to Ashton Kutcher, is rarely absent from an awards night. But apparently Moore was under the weather.

She tweeted she was “feeling sick and having a bad hair day” on Sunday afternoon. Perhaps she just had a case of the winter blues. The city of Los Angeles was wet with rain during a time of year that is usually winter crisp.

Awards presenter Kutcher – who like Moore is an avid tweeter – attended without her and posted updates from backstage.

They included such Twitter gems as: “FYI Ricky Gervais is pounding Fosters back stage. The show should only get funnier.” 6:43 PM Jan 17th from Tweetie.

    SPL141368_021

On the loose from the Spider-Man franchise, Tobey Maguire is looking to come back as a hobbit.

Maguire will play the lead role in the movie Bilbo Baggins based on the book series by JRR Tolkien.

Maguire, 34, played the lead role in the Spider-Man franchise for three films but quit when the fourth became uncertain. Spider-Man 4 will be rebooted and return without Sam Raimi, the director of the first three movies.

Peter Jackson and director Guillermo del Toro pursued Maguire for The Hobbit for some months.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “The Hobbit team are deep in the casting process. Everyone is over the moon. Tobey is not only one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood, he is also one of the best actors.”

Maguire was recently rumoured to be lined up for Bilbo. He earlier said he had not spoken to the filmmakers but added: “I love Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson and I certainly wouldn’t take myself out of the conversation.”

The X Factor’s Jedward have been asked to audition for the roles of twins Fili and Kili in the movie.

But luckily his son knew just how hip director Danny Boyle was and made his dad take the part in the Oscar-winning movie.

“I didn’t know who Danny Boyle was when I was approached, and it was my son who said, ‘Dad, you’re being a fool,’ and pointed out a Trainspotting poster,” he admitted.

SPL132533_013Actor George Clooney has said if he wants a break from the media attention he just invites round his pals Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Clooney, 48, is starring in new movie Up in the Air, which has received positive reviews and has been said to be Oscar-worthy.

Talking about his life at his villa in Lake Como, he said: “It takes you out of the spotlight for several months at a time.

“It’s much easier for me to hang out with friends at a restaurant in Laglio or a lot of the other small villages and towns without 50 photographers showing up in half a hour.

“My life over there takes me away from the circus aspects of being a celebrity and that’s a pleasant change for me.

“Whenever I want, I can always stage a diversion and invite Brad, Angie and their 15 children to come and visit.”
