Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver wins prestigious prize
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has won a prestigious prize for ‘exceptional individuals’ previously awarded to former President Bill Clinton.
Oliver has been awarded $100,000 to help him achieve his ‘one wish to change the world’ which he will reveal at a ceremony next month.
The prize is run by an organisation called TED, which stands for ‘technology, entertainment, design’.
TED’s prize recognises ‘exceptional individuals’, with previous winners including Bill Clinton, U2 singer and poverty campaigner Bono and author Dave Eggers.
The former President pledged to help build a rural health system in Rwanda with his prize money.
Oliver was given the award for his UK school dinners campaign, the Fifteen foundation which trains up young chefs, and the television series Food Revolution USA.
TED organisers said: “It’s incredibly exciting to welcome Jamie Oliver to join our line-up of change catalysts.”
