Avatar star Zoe Saldana said the cast worked so hard during the two-year shoot for the movie they didn’t know what to do during breaks in filming.

The 31-year-old actress, who played Uhura in Star Trek earlier this year, plays Neytiri in James Cameron’s much-anticipated movie.

Cameron first had the idea for the film 15 years ago and it features state-of-the-art special effects.

Talking about preparations for shooting, she said: “We did archery and movement. We worked with an amazing choreographer to create a specific walk and mannerisms for the Na’vi because we just couldn’t be human.

“We also did martial arts. Because of who we are, the movement needed to be smooth. We also worked on horseback and there was a lot of training in the gym, so we could sustain rigorous legwork.

“It was important because I am crouching for half the movie. We would have to wear the tail throughout all our movement training in order to allow it to dictate how we were going to swing and movie.”

She added: “We worked for a period of two years off and on and, at one point, we had 15 days with no break.”
