Roman Polanski was still in the Zurich jail from which he has been granted bail on house arrest, said a report from Switzerland.

Polanski’s $4.5million bail was a cash offer and now he must pay in full, the report claimed.

Because Polanski was still in jail, questions as to whether or not he had made the full payment emerged.

But the Swiss Justice Ministry declined to say what guarantees it required from the fugitive director in order to grant release to the Swiss Chalet that awaits him on a grassy mountainside in the resort town of Gstaad.

Polanski must surrender his papers and be fitted with an electronic monitor bracelet that was earlier said to lack GPS. Swiss law requires bail to be paid in full.

Whether or not he will be extradited to the US on 30-year-old child sex charges remains unclear but US authorities were last heard to be pushing ahead. With regard to the bail, a Swiss ministry spokesman said: “The bail must be wired to a bank account, and the bank must then notify us that it has received the bail. Nothing happens before that.”

French diplomat Jean-Luc Faure-Tournaire visited Polanski on Monday. He said: “He is in good spirits. He is very happy about how he has been treated here.”
