Director Danny Boyle upset by Slumdog stars demand for more cash
Director Danny Boyle has reportedly been left “tired” and “very upset” after failing to reach an agreement concerning money with the families of the children, who starred in his Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
Boyle is said to have flown to India to meet with organisers of his Jai Ho Trust, which was set up to support the film’s child stars Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali, after their starring roles helped the movie smash box-office records worldwide.
But the children’s families have reportedly demanded more cash from the trust fund.
Boyle has allegedly now been asked to provide a car for Ismail’s relatives, while Ali’s family wants a further £30,000 in addition to the £50,000 that they have already received for an apartment.
But the British film-maker has reportedly become fed up with the requests for more money and has left India, according to a spokesperson for the Trust.
The rep said: “He is tired, really tired. The demands are now sky-rocketing…
“Danny is frustrated at these demands and has left India for England. He is very, very upset.”
