Actor Edward Norton creates social fundraising website

The Incredible Hulk star, Edward Norton has created a Facebook-type charity website and has enlisted the help of Hollywood pals Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, and Kristen Bell to raise money for special causes.

The 40-year-old actor co-created Crowdrise.com earlier this year with film producer Shauna Robertson and Robert and Jeffrey Wolfe – founders of online retailer Moosejaw – to give individuals and organisations a platform to raise money for their favourite causes.

The actor and activist said: “We wanted to help bridge the gap between this generation, which is very comfortable identifying itself on platforms like this, and organisations that benefit.”

Users create their project page, which is linked to their favourite charities and then ask family and friends to sponsor their voluntary effort, donate money and/or start their own campaign.

And some of the actor’s famous friends, including comedian Seth Rogen, Knocked Up star Paul Rudd, Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress Kristen Bell, and comic actor Will Ferrell have started their own pages to raise money for their favourite causes.

Talking about Norton’s fundraising initiative, Rogen, who is using the site to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, told Daily Variety: “I’m all for anything that makes the idea of charity not lame and boring and very serious.

“Because I feel that that’s what keeps a lot of young people away.”

Norton told the US newspaper: “What’s cool about it is not that there are a couple of performers [on the site] who are well known, but that they’re in the mix and shuffle with everyone else.”

Aretha Franklin sang with Condolezza Rice

Aretha Franklin left politics aside and sang together with Condolezza Rice at a charity concert that took place on Tuesday. The soul singer, a convinced democrat, sang at the inauguration of Barack Obama. She also had three concerts with Rice, who plays the piano, and is a member of the Republican party. Aretha Franklin sang a few of her very well known songs but also famous opera parts, while the former United States secretary accompanied her on the piano. According to Reuters, the concert raised more than 580.000 dollars. The money will be used to help poor children.

Elton John Works on Animal Farm

Elton John is once again teaming up with Lee Hall to create a stage production of George Orwell’s story ‘Animal Farm’. The iconic singer and the esteemed screenwriter worked together on the stage adaptation of ‘Billy Elliot’ and I’m sure that with these two behind the wheel of ‘Animal Farm’, it will be just as successful. However, there’s yet to be a theater producer attached to the project. But again, with Elton and Lee, it shouldn’t be long until a line would start forming right outside their doors. I honestly can’t wait to see what they come up with. I’m excited!

Oprah offers Duchess of York a lifeline

TV icon Oprah Winfrey has offered The Duchess of York a primetime chat show slot.

Oprah is planning to launch her own cable channel next year and is said to have offered Sarah Ferguson a deal after she appeared on her show back in May.

Fergie apologised after being caught asking for £500,000 to provide access to Prince Andrew without his knowledge or consent. Given her struggle with £2million debts, the offer could be a lifeline.

According to The Mirror newspaper, a source said, “Oprah made the call this week. They spoke in person. For Sarah, the offer is a ray of light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

“The Duchess went on Oprah’s show to explain herself after her most recent scandal.

“Oprah has always been impressed by her ability to pick herself up.”

Robbie Williams launches the first karaoke game

Zsa Zsa Gabor to undergo surgery

Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is to undergo surgery after breaking her hip.

Paramedics were called to the Bel Air home of the 93 year-old after she fell out of bed trying to answer the phone, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Husband Frederic Prinz von Anhalt and daughter Constance Francesca Hilton are believed to be by her side as she waits for hip replacement surgery.

Her publicist John Blanchette told the newspaper: “When Frederic called me from the hospital, he said, ‘John, it’s bad, it’s really bad’. She’s a fighter, and we’re hopeful that things will work out well.”

The socialite has been partially paralysed since a car accident in 2002 and she suffered a stroke in 2005.

Katie Holmes has revealed that she is “having a ball” playing the role of Jackie-O.

Holmes stars as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for new History Channel mini-series The Kennedys.

She told US entertainment show Extra: “I’m having a ball.

“It’s a great group of people and I feel really lucky to be part of it and have this role.”

The singer Natalie Cole will tell about her successful kidney transplant and the tragic death of her sister, in a book of memoires. The Grammy winner singer will collaborate with David Ritz, who also helped Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye to write their memoires. Her book will be named “Love Brought Me Back”. The 60 years old artist was fighting a kidney disease last year, and exactly on the day when she went into surgery, her sister Cookie died. In the book she will also remember her father, Nat King Cole. The book will be in libraries in the USA starting this year’s November.

Ashton Kutcher: "I want to be in a western"

There is just one thing Ashton Kutcher is yearning for – a part in a western movie.

The 32-year-old hunk revealed more than anything he wants to star in a “gritty” western film, but doesn’t think it will happen because there simply isn’t the market for it.

The actor – who is married to Demi Moore – said a cowboy flick would be right up his street.

He told MTV Australia: “I really want to do a western at some point that’s like a real super gritty, gritty western. But I don’t know if I’ll get to do that because people don’t really go to westerns anymore. But at some point, I’d love to.”

Promoting his latest film Killers, he praised co-star Katherine Heigl.

He added: “Katherine’s the kind of person who considers running to be a stunt, but at the same time what it is that she brings is so valuable, and she’s actually a really great person on top of it.

“She just knows what she likes to do and knows what she doesn’t like to do and brings it.”

Kim Kardashian has finally revealed why she split up with NFL star boyfriend Reggie Bush.

The couple, who had been dating since 2007, surprised many when they called it quits this May, just weeks after they celebrated his Superbowl win together.

Now the reality TV star has finally opened up about the split as she told her sister Kourtney about it in an intimate moment shown in the latest episode of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.

As she unpacked at her sister’s apartment in Miami, Kim suddenly said: “Reggie and I broke up… like, for good. There was no fight, there was no nothing, we just realised that our lives are so different it’s not working.”

Kourtney tried to pick up her mood, replying: “I say we do things Miami style.”

“I’m ready,” said Kim. “I’m so ready, you have no idea.”

As they hit a spa, she then adds: “It’s time to move on but I don’t have anyone to move on to.”

Later in the episode, however, the two have a falling out over Kim’s obsessive use of her Blackberry.

She had flown over to spend “quality time” with Kourtney in Miami and help her out at her Dash store while sister Khloe was with her husband in Los Angeles.

But Kourtney gets so mad at her constant cell phone use she hides it from while she is in the shower – and a makeup-less Kim is not happy at all.

Donald Trump offers Rachel Uchitel job on Celebrity Apprentice

Billionaire Donald Trump has offered Tiger Woods’ mistress Rachel Uchitel a role on Celebrity Apprentice.

It is well known that the US tycoon is a good friend of Woods, but he has revealed to TMZ that he has asked Uchitel if she would like a role on the next season of the show and said she would be ‘awesome’.

Asked if she was going to take the offer, she said to TMZ: “Absolutely.”

Trump doesn’t have the final say on whether or not she will appear on the next season as NBC will have the final decision.

Uchitel, a New York nightclub hostess, was one of the first women reported to have had an affair with golfer Woods, 34.

Julia Roberts ‘to team up with writer Ryan Murphy again’

Actress Julia Roberts could work with writer and producer Ryan Murphy again, according to reports.

The pair worked together on Eat, Pray, Love and will now reportedly team up again for a new feature film.

Murphy has supposedly landed a £5m deal with Sony Pictures to write and direct the movie with the Notting Hill star, 42.

According to Deadline.com, the Nip/Tuck creator, 44, worked so well with Roberts that Sony wanted to get them back together.

Sean Penn awarded for Haiti work

Sean Penn has been honoured by Haiti’s president in recognition of his humanitarian work in the earthquake- stricken country.

In the wake of the disaster, the Hollywood star helped manage a relief camps for displaced persons and has helped raise awareness of the continuing crisis in Haiti.

Also being honoured by President Rene Preval were former US president Bill Clinton and CNN reporter Anderson Cooper.

The ceremony took place on the site of the presidential palace in the nation’s capital Port-Au-Prince on Monday, marking six months since the earthquake struck, The Express reports.

Michael Keaton turned back on Hollywood to raise son

Toy Story 3 star Michael Keaton has admitted he turned his back on Hollywood so he could bring up his son.

Keaton, 58, who voices the role of Ken in the new Pixar flick, starred in movies such as Beetlejuice and Batman but he left the lifestyle behind so he could raise his son Sean.

He said to UK newspaper Daily Mirror: “I was raising a child full time, sharing the responsibility with his mum. He lived with me half the time so I chose not to go away and make certain movies.”

Keaton added that he also got fed up with the movies he was being offered at that time.

He said: “One reason is, I got bored. I felt I was repeating myself and wasn’t having a lot of fun doing what I used to have fun doing. So I was always selective to a fault and not doing things which maybe I should have done.”

Cheryl Cole, barely alive

Cheryl Cole is still in the hospital, in a very bad condition. The singer who was diagnosed with malaria last week is breathing now with the help of a life support apparatus. Unfortunately, Cheryl needs an oxygen tube to help her stay alive and worse than that, doctors say that she has fluid building up in her lungs. Close friends of the star admitted that she could still die easily because her immune system is very weakened. Cheryl can not talk and she has moments of unconsciousness. She will remain in the hospital for at least two weeks. Her album release in December was canceled.
